Hutton renews support to British manufacturing  
 

Business Secretary John Hutton called on UK manufacturers to respond positively to new opportunities in the green economy, such as renewable energy and other low-carbon technology.

Mr Hutton said "UK manufacturing has a crucial role to play in helping us accelerate to a low carbon economy.”

Britain to build world's biggest biomass plant  
 

Hutton gives green light to a 350MW wood-chipped fuelled electricity generating plant in Port Talbot, south Wales.

"This will generate enough clean electricity to power half of the homes in Wales and joins eight major renewables projects already given the green light in the past 12 months alone…”

£25 million issued for wind turbines & solar panels  
  Renewable energy grants worth £25 million have now been claimed. Grants claimed under BERR's Low Carbon Buildings Programme since April 2006 are:
* £7.5 million to help 4,600 households generate their own clean and green energy.
* £18 million for a total of 739 projects on school, community, housing association and business buildings.

Turning up the heat  
  Government gathers evidence on renewable heat sources.
Energy Minister Malcolm Wicks called for evidence on best ways to decarbonise how we heat our homes and businesses. The call forms part of the plans to reduce the UK's CO2 emissions and to contribute to the target of obtaining 20% of all EU energy from renewables by 2020.
